Fun in any weather with running clothing from Running-Point

Whether it's bright and sunny or cold and wet and rainy: jogging is simply better with the right running clothing. But what is the right running clothing? Generally speaking, the kind that feels good on you. Of course, in addition to being comfortable to wear, it should also meet other requirements. First of all, freedom of movement. Your running outfit should give you the greatest possible freedom when running and not restrict your movements. Good running clothes should fit your body so well that you hardly feel them. There should be no pinching or tugging, no chafing on the skin and certainly no flapping on the arms and legs.
Cotton may be a wonderful material for everyday wear, but it is not very suitable for runners. Cotton absorbs moisture and soaks up sweat. As a result, you get cold more quickly, your clothes start to stick to your body, the fabric becomes heavier and rubs against your skin, which can lead to sore patches. Wet textiles also encourage the spread of bacteria in sensitive areas.

Good running clothing is generally functional clothing and is usually made from synthetic fibers such as nylon, which have different properties. However, there is also functional clothing with a proportion of merino wool, which is also able to transport moisture and regulate body temperature. Functional clothing made from merino wool is particularly suitable for those whose skin reacts sensitively to synthetic fibers.

The advantages of functional clothing

Functional clothing offers many advantages for runners. It is made from particularly lightweight, mostly synthetic materials that are breathable and help the body to maintain a constant temperature. Functional clothing reliably wicks moisture away from the skin towards the surface, where it can evaporate. The skin feels pleasantly dry and you don't cool down as quickly, which reduces the risk of injuries and colds. The textiles also dry very quickly.
Some functional clothing is equipped with additional technologies that protect against wind, rain and cold, so there are no more excuses even in adverse weather conditions. Functional clothing specially developed for runners is tailored to the movements specific to this sport and allows the greatest possible freedom of movement. The seams of good running clothing are positioned in such a way that they cannot chafe anywhere. Functional clothing therefore guarantees maximum comfort from the first to the last meter.

What is the ideal running outfit?

If, like most runners, you do sport outdoors, the multi-layer principle is recommended. Of course, the number of layers depends on the weather. If it is very hot, you only need one thin and airy layer, whereas in icy temperatures you are better off with three well-insulated layers. In general, however, you are well advised to wear several layers of running clothing.
First comes the bottom layer, the baselayer. This is a thin, close-fitting layer consisting of functional underwearrunning trousers and a thin running shirt. Compared to everyday underwear, functional underwear offers various advantages. When you sweat, it doesn't stick to your skin and chafe, but reliably wicks sweat away so that you feel pleasantly dry. You should therefore always wear functional underwear when running.
sports bra is essential for runners, regardless of their bust size. Without the protective and supportive function of sports bras, the unavoidable vibrations when running can sometimes cause severe pain in the chest area. In the long term, postural damage and chronic complaints in the upper body cannot be ruled out.

In summer, a thin layer is usually sufficient. However, if it is a little cooler, you are well advised to wear a second layer, the so-called midlayer. This additional layer of running clothing - consisting of a long-sleeved shirt or a thin running jacket, for example - largely traps the air around your body and retains body heat so that you are well protected from the cold. However, it should not be too well insulated so that you don't overheat.
On particularly wet or cold days, it is a good idea to put on a third layer of running clothing to protect you from wind, rain and snow. For example, wind-repellent, breathable running jackets, warm tights and, in particularly icy temperatures, an additional layer of running trousers.

Which running clothes to wear in hot or cold weather?

We wear different running clothes depending on the weather. On hot days, the motto is: as little as possible. It is best to wear short, light and airy running clothes, preferably with mesh inserts. Also wear light-colored running clothes that reflect the sun and don't heat up as quickly as dark textiles. If your preferred running route offers little shade, you should opt for running clothes with built-in UV protection. You should also wear running socks with a cooling function.

If you are planning to run in the cold, it is best to dress according to the onion principle and wear several layers on top of each other. Make sure you have the right combination of insulation and breathability to keep your body at the right temperature. A warm headgear, neck warmer and breathable gloves provide additional protection from the cold. Equipped like this, icy temperatures are no match for you. If it is raining or snowing, you will need even more layers, such as a thermal long-sleeved shirtwarm tights and an additional lightweight running jacket.
As it gets dark so early in the cold season, you should wear running clothing with reflective elements so that other road users can see you from a distance.
